Mumbles Pier

History of the Pier

An early picture of the pier, taken at the beginning of the 20th century

The pier, which was built in 1898, is a tribute to Victorian architecture! Standing 225 meters out into Mumbles Bay it was once the way to travel to Swansea! The White Funnel Streamers would dock on the end unloading hundreds of tourists, to the mumbles via the 1st passenger railway!

Nowadays it is used for little more than a fishing point or a breath taking walk offering the most superb views! The lighthouse to one side, Mumbles Bay to the other, and Port Talbot in front - you see why this was the gateway to Swansea!

With a fully functioning lifeboat station the pier still holds more than enough excitement for anyone!
